Friends of the Millis Public Library Booksale - March 28th - 30th


Friday March 28th, Saturday March 29thand Sunday March 30th.

 Friends of the Millis Library Book Sale and Family Fun Day at the Millis Public Library, 961 Main St., Millis. 3 days to buy books and more.

Friday, March 28th, 6-8 pm-- Friends preview and sale for current members only.  New applications accepted that evening. 

Saturday March 29th, 9am -1pm-- Friends Book Sale and Family Fun Day.

Sunday, March 30th,2 to 4 pm-- Five dollar a bag sale. 

A great selection of adult, young adult and children’s books and DVDs at fantastic prices is available.  Saturday only- free fun activities such as face painting, story times and more.  All are welcome to come and enjoy this fun day!

Free Poetry Workshops
Saturday, April 5th

Celebrate National Poetry Month at the

Millis Public Library April 5th


To celebrate National Poetry Month, free one-day poetry workshops for both children and adults will be held on Saturday, April 5th in the Roche Bros. Community Room at the Millis Public Library. 

·        Workshop for children ages 9-12 years will be held at 11:30 am-12:15 pm

·        Workshop for teens and adults will be at 12:30 pm-2:30 pm. 

·        Participants will write their own poems after discussing and answering questions about a major poem. 

·        Interested participants are invited to register for the appropriate workshop as soon as possible, as space is limited.   You may register in person or call the library at 508-376-8282.

The workshops will be taught by acclaimed poet, professor and public lecturer, Barbara Helfgott Hyett.   Barbara is currently the director of PoemWorks: the Workshop for Publishing Poets in Brookline, MA,which was named "One of the Best Workshops in Boston” by the Boston Globe. 



Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets throughout the United States come together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture. 


The Millis Public Library is located at 961 Main St. (Route 109) in Millis. There is ample parking at the back entrance of the building.   These poetry workshops are sponsored by the Friends of the Millis Public Library through a grant from the Millis Cultural Council.   For more information, visit or call the library at 376-8282.

WE WANT YOUR  Gently-used Adult, Young Adult and Children's Books, DVD's, CD's, games and puzzles.  Please deliver  BEFORE MARCH 15 to Friends Room inside the Millis Public Library during business hours.  Enter the building through the back entrance and take first left.  The Friends Room is the last door on the left before the Roche Bros. Community Room.  Please, no VHR tapes nor School Text Books.

Manana Starts Today with local author Sandra Elaine Scott  

This book is a collection of 49 heart, mind, and soul-centered empowering affirmations, designed to assist the reader in moving forward on your goals and dreams. Book signing by Author and special guest, Jean Maniscalco, cover illustrator.  Cost of book is $12.95.

Roche Bros. Community Room

Historian Paul Lacroix returns with an encore presentation of "The History of George Fairbanks' Stone House at Bogastowe Farms - A Century of Colonial Activity Revealed."  Lacroix is President of the Millis Historical Society and chief archeologist on the Stone House dig which began in 2005. Additional details on Smelting industry will be included.   Limited seating to 110.  Please arrive early to secure a seat.

Roche Bros. Community Room

Friends of the Millis Public Library Book Sale.   Adult, Young Adult and Children's Books, DVD's, CD's, Games and Puzzles too.  All gently used and nicely priced. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the MPL, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which supports the MPL by funding museum passes, and much, much more.  This event is open to the public.

What Do the Friends Do?     


Spotlight on Seniors Programs

Silver Screen Matinees will be held on Friday afternoons starting October 4th at 2:00 pm.  This program is free and will be held in the Roche Brothers Family Community Room.  No registration required. 

Hands-on BridgeTwo evening programs offered for experienced bridge players and new bridge players.

Sit and Knit:  This is a drop in program for knitters of all abilities.  Bring your own projects and supplies.

Spotlight on Seniors program initiative is made possible through the generous support of Foundation for Metrowest and the Friends of the Millis Public Library.

When We Meet
The Friends Meet the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Library in the Roche Brothers Community Room, unless otherwise noted.  Your attendance is greatly appreciated, but not a requirement of Membership.
Book Sales
Book Sale Fundraisers are held annually in November and May (June for Children and Young Adult only).  Year round we accept donations of hardcover, paperback fiction and non-fiction books, books on tape/CDs, DVDs, Games and Puzzles.  All items should be in good condition.  Please drop off your donations to the Friends Room during library business hours.  Please, no VHS tapes, text books or magazines.
